I'm running CamUniversal 3.5. My current set up has 5 web cameras. Four of the cameras have a scheduled event that takes a picture every 299 seconds between 5:30AM and 9:30 PM. The fifth camera has 2 schedules - one for the picture (same as above) and one to ftp the files to a webserver every 300 seconds between 7:30 and 5:00.

After starting the scheduler, all cameras will work for the first day. The second day, one camera will not allow the picture to update (it retains the picture from 9:30PM the previous night), but the date and time stamp on the picture update.

Stopping and starting the schedule for that camera each day allows it to work for another day. The issue will stay with that camera until I delete the camera, change the IP, and then re-install the camera. At that time, the issue will move to another random camera.

On checking the image directly from the camera, it looks fine.

I'm using DCS-900 wired, DCS-900 (wireless), and DCS-G900 (wireless) cameras. So far, I've been able to duplicate the problem on 2 of the 3 wired cameras.

Any suggestions?

I beleive I've resolved this issue. By slowing down the preview interval, the problem has not occured in 2 days. I changed the preview interval from the default (1 second) to 7 seconds. Of course, this means I'm only able to do my motion detection every 7 seconds too.

Thank you fpr the information.

You could also decrease the image resolution if you want to reduce the needed bandwidth.

The problem is still happening, I just havn't posted because I'm not able to rule out a few things yet. It's occuring every 3-4 days, so the analyze.txt logs are quite large. I'm going to try a few things before I try to identify the exact time and close error messages. What I want to do is move everything to a wired network (ruling out interference and RF issues). I also want to try a different computer (ruling out a PC issue).

I hope to have more info in about 2-3 weeks.

I've ruled out about as much as I can other than a faster PC. (I've moved as many links to wired as I can, I've eliminated my 2.4Ghz cordless phones, and I've ruled out other applications running on the PC). The problem still happens either daily or every other day.

Once again, here's my setup. 2 wireless D-Link 900 Cameras and 3 wired D-Link cameras.

These are wired to the same hub my PC is wired to (1.6Ghz Celeron w/ 1G memory).

CamUniversal is set to get the pictures every 7 secons from each of the cameras. Every 7 seconds it does motion detection. Every 120 seconds it places a copy in a given directory. Every 300 seconds it ftp the files in said directory to a website.

The symptions are always the same - after a random amount of time (usually 6-48 hours), the picture stops updating (it basically freezes with a specific image), but the time stamps are updated and laoded to the web. Although motion detection continues, it compares the exact same (non-updated) picture ech time. (The difference is always 0.00%.

I'm having a problem pinpointing the instant it occurs with an analyze (camuniversal.exe -analyze) as the analyze.txt file is often in excess of 10MB by the time it happens.

Any one else experience this issue or have any ideas? I'm still working to get the analyze.txt data that pinpoints what's going on.

In the analyze file you can see if a picture could be received from the camera or not. It could be, that no more pictures could be received or always the same.

Starting/stopping of the scheduler solves the problem?
What happens if you quit and restart the program?

I shoudl have revised that earlier post. Starting and stopping the scheduler does not always fix the problem. Usually I have to close the program and restart it. The problem does not *stay* with any camera, but will hit any camera on the program. It is not limited to 1 camera, but will hit any number of cameras. Between last night (10PM) and now (9AM), it's hit 3 of my 5 cameras (and I forgot to do a -analyze).

I had the problem occur again on 12/3. Sometime between 10:00AM and 5:00PM, pictures for 3 of my 5 webcams stopped updating I have the logs and saved some specific information out (deleting 240,000 lines that did not seem important). All I see in the analyze.txt log is that there were many times where the 3 cameras that experienced the problem simply reported "Would start by not back from previous start". Here are some details.

The pictures from IP's .156 and .151 both APPEAR to be fine (I cannot confirm as the pictures were not changing greatly), but the pictures from .152, .155, and .154 were all easily over 12 hours old, but had a current date and time stamp on them. There are 2 sets of captures below. The first is from 11:52:00 to 11:52:25 when the pictures that were to be loaded to the web were received from the cameras. The second is from 11:55:10 until 11:55:59 whenI killed the program.

Last bit of background. The cameras for IP's .152, .155, and .156 are all wired cameras. The cameras for IP's .151 and .155 are wireless. The PC is wired. All wired cameras are DLink-900. .151 is a DLink-G900 and .155 is a DLink-900W. At some point in time over the past 4 weeks, this problem has occured on all cameras and is resolved by quiting the program and restarting.

I have the same problem.

Frustrating - I know.
Fortunately, I'm right next to different PC.
When the MJPG stream seems to get caught on one image...
I learned the following:

I can go to a different pc, and query the webcam via a browser.
As soon as I do, the motion jpg stream advances in CrazyPixels.

So as not to slow down the camera (using it internally to monitor and take photos) - I keep a web browser on the camera from a second PC.. If the video stream appears to freeze in CrazyPixels, I quickly hit refresh and then stop. (The more systems viewing a camera, the slower it is to respond.)

I think the camera is actually the problem here. You can also have the browser open on the same pc CrazyPixels is working on and hit refresh. Then you'll see the stream advance.

I'm just using a different PC to know that it's not the software. CrazyPixels is actually seeing the same picture from the mjpg stream because it's the camera that "gets stuck" I'll bet it's a StarDot camera. Good stuff, but something's going on inside those little gems.

I'm going to email the developer of CrazyPixels to see if he can implement some kind of "keep alive feature" that will wake up the browser if it doesn't notice any changes.

PS: Another solution is to find / have a some separate piece software running that could maybe periodically "ping" the camera so to speak. Haven't tried to implement this yet.... Going to see what I can find on snapfiles.com

I'll have to try that out. I still occasionally have this issue (picture doesn't update but the time does) and also have the problem where the files to upload to my webserver. (Motion continues to work in the case of the ftp issue).

My solution to handle this was to force the PC to reboot every night. After the reboot, the program starts back up and all works well again. This ensures that if I do encounter a problem, it lasts for 24 hours at most.

For now, that works fine for me as I don't loose much data or to many hours of motion detection. But, if I were using this commercially, I might need to continue to dig into it.
