However I set up the motion detection settings, there always seems to be a delay between movement occuring and recording starting. I can have somebody walk through a detection area and the video recording begins with them having taken another two to three strides. Is there any way to start recording immediately so I don't always lose this first 0.5 - 1 second of video?

It appears to do this in image capture as well.

there is a little delay which depends on the used system.

At recording start the software switchs from the preview mode into a preview + recording mode. This costs a little time, depending on the performance of the system, the used codecs for video and audio compression, etc.
