I have it on motion detection and it uploads video to ftp server. when motion is detected it crashes.

please try to check the functions separately.

Is the motion detector running well if you don't select a action at detection, or maybe only picture capturing?

Is the FTP uploading working well? You can try this from the FTP settings dialog direct with the test button. Or you can try it with the scheduler!
