Post subject: | USB WebCam, CamLAN and VLC for playback? |
Hi there. I'm evaluating these products in order to transform regular USB WebCams (creative etc..) into Generic IP-Camera. WebCamXP was not good, will these do the trick better? 1. I ONLY need a application that transforms USB Cam into WebCam. Is "CamLAN" right app for that? 2. I tested CamLAN and activated VideoLAN, Selected WEbCam to produce MJPEG, but what is the URL for that??? * http://ip:port/ ??? ... video.cgi ? or does this use RTSP? * Default port was 399. 3. I need VLC to be able to watch the feed.. I represent a very large large expanding surveillance company also in nothern europe, So I'd be happy to receive a proper answer that resolves my problem. Thank you. http://www.securitas.com |

Hello, the easiest way to use a webcam as IP-cam goes through the integrated webserver of CamLAN (CamUniversal, CamPermanent). - add the webcam to the program as a new camera. - start the integrated webserver - request images from the webcam through standard HTTP requests Sample of such a live cam using the integrated webserver: http://www.crazypixels.com/camuni-cam.htm More about the webserver: http://www.crazypixels.com/fs7.htm |

I too am evaluating CamLAN to turn webcams to IP Cameras. I am wondering if the Webserver can send me a MJPEG stream rather than having to do repeated requests.. This would make it easier to integrate into our existing surveillance software (Xprotect). TIA Peter |
