I scanned the boards and didn't see a post similar to this, so figured I'd ask.
I'm currently using the trial of CamPermanent with 2 webcams to do picture capturing (numbered 0-2, so loop of 3 pics) and a perm recording feed with 2-3 minutes lengths (records over itself every 2-3 mins) at a resolution of 800x600, with a frame writing interval of .5 sec.
Everything works great.
Now that I'm thinking of buying the software, I need to start speccing out hardware for my project as well as the current setup was for temporary testing purposes. Eventually I want to have several more webcams running, performing the same 2 tasks each as mentioned above. To maximize performance, is CamPermanent optimized for multi-core CPUs? Also, would a solid state drive or some super-fast RAM help boost recording performance (I also have programs running to copy the video recordings based on triggered events to another location)? Lastly, I know the limitations of the USB bus bandwidth when running many webcams, so I was planning on installing 2 or 3 USB expansion cards in the PC and only put 2 cameras on each so that I don't overload any individual bus.
Sound logical/appropriate?

Hello,
yes CamPermanent capitalizes on multiple cores and SSDs also. Both things should boost the performance.
I have only experiences in using several USB webcams at the standard USB connections. And this works not very good. On my system 2 cameras are ok and up from the third connected camera the video preview shows only still pictures. I don't know how good USB cards are working and if there is no more the bandwidth problem.
